Gerken Family – Mandeville Family Portraits

December 13, 2009

Bill and Kathy Gerken are my great aunt and uncle, on my dad’s side.  These two are an inspiring couple to me, as they are always planning their next big adventure together.  They have traveled all over the world, and LOVE just being together!  They are special to me, especially because Uncle Bill is my Papa’s only brother – and let me tell you, they definitely favor each other.  My Papa passed away around 12 years ago, so to see his resemblance in Uncle Bill is always comforting to me.   I know…..sappy once again.  🙂

When we first moved to Mandeville in 1994, we spent our very first Thanksgiving with Aunt Kathy’s family in Slidell.  We were quickly emersed in the Southern hospitality culture as we were introduced to life on Bayou Liberty and oyster dressing.  That’s what I remember most vividly.  We spent a lot of time at their home on the bayou, and my mom even joined Aunt Kathy in the Bayou Liberty pirogue races!  Great memories.   Maybe now that Brandon and I are living here again, I may have to give Aunt Kathy a run for her money in the pirogue races this coming year.  I love the South!

Aunt Kathy asked for me to photograph she and her family.  I was honored by the request, and we were all able to spend the afternoon together in Abita Springs.  Here are a few of my personal favorites from our time together.  Enjoy!

What a sweet picture of these two adventurers!
